Futuri Aprili

Futuri Aprili directed by Enrico Bellenghi
An intimate snapshot of youth representation and self-discovery, exploring the questions that mold our identity and vision of the world.

..so, you’re staring out a rain-streaked window, deep in thought, wondering who you are and what your place in the world is. The questions that hit you as a teen and young adult aren’t just for dramatic effect—they’re the very things that help you figure out what you believe in and what kind of person you want to be. It’s like a weird, beautiful mix of self-discovery and trying to get a handle on the rest of humanity.

This whole journey of finding yourself is what Italian director Enrico Bellenghi explores in his short film, Futuri Aprili. He basically asks, “How do different people and subcultures help shape the way young people see the world?” He even gives a little nod to the OG of youth documentaries, Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Comizi d’Amore from 1963, which was one of the first films to really shine a spotlight on youth culture and their dreams for the future.

Bellenghi takes a unique approach for his film. As he puts it: “Reinterpreting the documentary narrative and mixing it with filmic fiction, each interviewee is stripped of their places and made to converge in limbo. The poses are static, and almost photographic, but they are accompanied by the real and heartfelt voices of the subjects.”
